The walking shoes I keep buying
I can slip these on with a bag on my wrist, throw them in the wash, and still like how they look when they come out. On my feet I go for more neutral colors.

I put them on with one foot while I was holding my bag, which is not a graceful picture and is still the one that sold me. That is the whole reason I bought the first pair. No sitting down. No laces. I just walked out, and the morning got one tiny bit easier, which is my favorite kind of purchase.
I have a corporate job and two kids, and I do not have a long morning. I wanted a walking shoe I would actually wear, not one I would save for a walk I never took. I have owned those other shoes. They live in a corner and wait for a better version of me. So I bought the Skechers Hands Free Slip-ins Go Walk Flex Relish. I have owned more than one pair. I have owned more than one color. I keep coming back to taupe, which is not a very exciting confession and is still the true one.
What I actually like
They slip on. That sounds small until you have done it every morning for a long time, with a bag on one wrist and a sentence already forming for whoever is about to ask you where something is. Heel in, go. I do not sit on the stairs. I do not look for a lace. I just leave, which is a skill I have been trying to learn in other parts of my life with much less success.
They do not get stinky easily, so I do not have to wear socks if I do not want to. I still do sometimes. I do not have to. That is a bigger deal than it sounds when you live in South Central Texas and you are in and out of the car all day, and the air itself feels like it has opinions about your feet. A shoe that stays decent is a quiet gift.
They are machine washable, and they actually wash well. I have put them in the machine. They come out looking like shoes I still want to wear. A lot of washable shoes are washable once. These have been through it and still look sleek. That is why I was willing to own more than one pair. I can wash them and put them back on, which is the whole love story, if I am honest.
I wanted a walking shoe that looked cute. I did not want to look like I was heading to a gym I do not go to.
They are comfortable. I mean it in the ordinary way: I forget I have them on. That is the only comfort I trust. And they look cute. Sleek enough that I wear them to the store, to school pickup, and on a walk, and I do not change shoes in between. If a walking shoe is ugly, I will not wear it. I already knew that about myself, and I have a closet that can confirm it.

The color I keep buying
I have bought these in different colors. I like having more than one pair. I still prefer taupe. On my feet I go for more neutral colors. A loud pair is fun for a minute. Neutral is what I actually wear, which is also how I dress the rest of me, so I am not sure why I keep being surprised by it.
The other colors are fine. I have worn them. When I am buying another pair, I buy taupe. I am not collecting shoes. I am repeating the one that works, which is a very grown-up habit I would like to apply to more things, and probably will not.
Would I buy them again? I already have, more than once, and I already know what color the next pair will be. Taupe. We have been over this.
